Essay Writing Instructions
The purpose of an argumentative essay is to convince the reader of the validity of a particular opinion or view, not on the basis of rhetorical persuasion, but through factual arguments (or justification).
First of all, in an argumentative essay, that opinion must be clearly and unambiguously expressed in the form of a statement or thesis ("I assert that...") and then supported by arguments that either directly show the validity of the thesis ("because") or refute objections to it. Writing an essay involves the author thinking carefully and critically about an issue, explaining his or her position and its reasons, and then clearly articulating those reasons in the text.

Language and style
